Reusing my i7 2600S in new build, yes or no?I'm looking into building a mid to high end rig to upgrade my older HP elite I don't really intend to OC so I thought my 2600s should work fine in a new rig and save me some $$. I wanted to make sure that a GTX 970 would not get bottle necked. and what is the best MoBo I can get for this old gal. Or am i better off buying a new processor? I was looking at the i5 series but without OC they seemed to be on par with my i7

I would think it will do fine. On some extreme cases you might get a slight drop in performance but overall it should run well.

Seems like it's worth it over the lower-clocked "S" version. And he'd probably be happy with the horsepower of the i7 over the 6300 for sure.There will ALWAYS be something better right around the corner. Cars, computers, phones, etc. Coffee Lake, IMO, won't be a huge step up over Kaby Lake considering what they've done in the past. Sure, prices on 6-cores might drop a tiny bit, but it won't blow Ryzen out of the water either.

ReUse intel i7-2600s?I am currently planning a new build. Instead of dropping $300+ on a new processor I was curious if I could take the processor from my HP Pavillion h8-1020 and use it toward my new build. I have an AMD based build already thats pretty solid, but I wanted to also make an Intel/NVidia build to help me choose which product I want to stand behind as I am pretty new to this myself. I dont really have a budget at all, but I was able to build my current AMD system piece by piece so it is possible. That i7 is still pretty powerful, and the improvements over the two generations since aren't enormous. You can get a 7-series motherboard (made for 3rd gen but compatible with 2nd gen like that chip). That chip can be reused, it's still quite viable and saves you a couple hundred.

(not in support list)So will the 2600s fit perfectly or i have to update the BIOS. But Acer's support site dont hav any BIOS for the MOBO!Please help me because i dont have much time. Both of the cpu, the i7 2600s and G630, are the Sandy Bridge, and your MB is the H61 so that the i7 2600s will fit without any BIOS update. Because 1) the i7 2600s is the lower power version of the i7 2600, 2) Because you are using the G630 right now, I check both of cpu, Intel launched the i7 2600s on Jan 2011, the g630 was released on Aug 2011. That means if you casn use the g630 you should be able to use the i7 2600s, as you know the MB needs the new BIOS for the newer hardware.
