Intel Pentium G3430 or i3-4330?The computer will be for my parents for general/office use (nothing heavy like gaming, CAD work, etc.). And I know for a fact that whatever I build now, they'll be using it until it runs into the ground, so one of my biggest priorities is finding something that will stay relevant for up to 8 years.I've considered a lot of AMD's offerings, but I'm still leaning slightly towards Intel, which seems more suitable, especially because they run a lot of programs that are single-threaded, like MS Word or Excel. Another big thing about Intel that I like is they have integrated graphics that supports 2-3 independent displays, so I don't have to buy a video card to do a dual monitor setup.Anyway, the problem is, I've noticed that even basic tasks like browsing or watching HD videos on YouTube get pretty power hungry over the years. Given this, do you think a Pentium would still suffice or would an i3 have better staying power? At this point, I'm torn between an i3-4330 and a Pentium G3430.Thanks a lot!

The two main difference between them is the G3430 lacks Hyper Threading. For most people the only apps that they use which can take advantage of HT is compression programs like 7-zip and WinRAR. The other thing that's different is the integrated graphics. The G3430 only has a Haswell generation Intel HD graphics core (no model #) while the i3-4330 has the Intel HD 4600. The Intel HD graphics core is more than enough to playback 1080p videos. Not sure if it's enough for 4k video though. Unless your parents are highly anticipating the release of 4k videos to be viewed on what I assume will be a 1980x1080 monitor, then there's no point in getting the Pentium G3430 since I am not sure if it can support 4k video. Then again, there is no sense in watching 4k video on a 1080p monitor.4k actually refers to several different resolutions, but for HDTV format it refers to 3840×2160 resolution; or "2160p".

The i3 is likely to be the limiting factor in your setup. The GTX 970 can push Crysis 3 to about 80+ fps with a good rig. An i5 or i7 would see a big jump in performance. In other games you may not see much of a difference, however the Crysis games are generally very hard on all parts of your hardware, and your weakest piece will hold you back, which in your case is the i3.

Since your on a tight budget just go with the gtx 970.. it will bottleneck on those more cpu hungry games, but in the future u should update it to a i5 or better

i3-4330 + GTX 760 Bottlenecks?I have recently purchased a Gigabyte WindforceX3 2GB GTX 760 and I was wondering if my pairing it with the i3-4330 in my current system would cause any bottlenecks.

I think you are appropriate and good.Try it with YOUR games and see.If you want to experiment a bit and find out what is the weak part,do a bit of testing.a) Run your games, but lower your resolution and eye candy. If your FPS increases, it indicates that your cpu is strong enough to drive a better graphics configuration. If your FPS stays the same, you are likely more cpu limited.b) Limit your cpu, either by reducing the OC, or, in windows power management, limit the maximum cpu% to something like 70%.Go to control panel/power options/change plan settings/change advanced power settings/processor power management/maximum processor state/ This will simulate what a lack of cpu power will do. Conversely what a 30% improvement in core speed might do.It is possible that both tests are positive, indicating that you have a well balanced system, and both cpu and gpu need to be upgraded to get better gaming FPS.
