Yeah it would just have 4 good cores and 2 faulty ones at the worst case, in which case you just lock it back down to quad core again.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 Gpu SupportedHi,I have a HP m9461it with a Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400, recently I've added 4 GB of RAM, a Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB and an Asus GTX 750 Ti. But due to several errors I had to return the 750 Ti because it wasn't supported by the processor.I was wondering if somebody knew a grafic processor that can support two monitors and that can be supported by my processor.Thank you very muchP.S.: My workstation is composed of:Asus IPIBL-LB Benicia-GL8EIntel Core 2 Quad Q9400 @ 2.66 GHz8 GB of RAM @ 800 MHzNo Graphic CardSamsung 850 EVO 250 GB2 x 500 GB HDDSteinberg UR22Power Spupply 460WWindows 7 Home Premium x642x Acer V226HQLBBD 21.5 inch Monitor

Toss in the Low Profile requirement and you're back to square one. Nothing in your price range is worth the cost.Rosewill RCX-Z775-LPThis one should fit and is in your original price range, but again, I doubt it would perform any better than your current cooler.-Wolf sends

Core 2 Quad Q9400s 2.66GHz GPU BottleneckRig:CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400s 2.66GHzMotherboard: P5Q PRO Ram: 4x 2 gigabyte 800MHz GPU: 2x Asus Radeon HD7850-V2 (2 GDDR5 each) in CrossfireHi, Looking to play games like GTA V, COD. etc. But I'm just wondering whether my current CPU and ram are bottlenecking my 2 graphics cards? I am currently interested in getting a 1156 motherboard and a basic i3 540 however I'm wondering whether this is a worthy upgrade or not as these cards don't seem to be running as well as they should, specifically in GTA V.Thanks

If you OC that puppy to faster speeds like I did with my Core 2 Quad and pair it with just one of those GPUs it would be a balanced system. Dual cards? Probably overkill. Your RAM is probably actually not able to feed the Q9400 very well. I find faster ram helped with mine some but I also OC'd it using the FSB.Mobo: P43D3CPU: Core 2 Quad Q9450 OC to 3.2Ghz (essentially a Q9650)GPU: HD 5870 1GBRAM: 8GB DDR3@1600I get 11679 in CloudGate and 110413 in IceStorm (3DMark). If you want, we can compare to give you a better idea of what your CPU is doing to your GPU's.

As the other guy said, that is a minimalist CPU cooler really no better than the original Intel stock cooler. Your temps are about to be expected with a C2Q generation chip with it. You don't say what your ambient room temperature is, but I'll assume the typical 25C/78F. For reference, I run a retro gaming C2D E8400 build with a Zalman 9700LED cooler and it hits no more than 55C at load being overclocked to 4.0 GHz. The case has good airflow with four fans. You don't say what kind of case or if you have front intake cooling fans but even if you do not, I doubt it would help much in your situation. You need to find a better cooler that will fit (preferably a tower of some sort) and get some good thermal paste.
