Core 2 Quad q6600 or Core 2 Duo e8400?I'm running an Optiplex 780 with 16gb of ram, a core 2 quad e8400 3 GHz and a GT 1030. I noticed that my gpu is majorly bottlenecking my gpu and I was wondering weather a quad core such as the q6600 2.4 GHz will keep up with my gpu or will the .6 GHz speed decrease also end up bottlenecking my gpu as well? If so, which core 2 quad would be suitable for my gpu?

Most games rely heavily on single-threaded performance. Trading frequency for extra cores may hurt more often than it helps.If you really want to upgrade that computer, see if its motherboard supports the Core 2 Quad 9650. Personally, I'd save for a Ryzen 1200 platform upgrade instead of spending money on a 10 years old Core 2. (I would consider the i3-8100 too if B/H-series motherboards were available but those aren't coming 'till next year.)

It supports Q9650. GTX 1050 would work well with that. 6GB RAM with GTX1050, 8GB for GTX1050Ti.With modern GPUs that have 2GB RAM memory speed isn't that big a factor anymore. DDR2 has lower latency than DDR3 so DDR2-800=DDR3 1066 anyway. AMD quad-core vs. Intel dual-corehey guys, I've just been given a couple systems that are kind of old but are still usable and I'd like to build them up to be decent machines. my question is which one of these processors are going to perform better? I know Intel makes the most powerful processors out there but is that still the case when a dual core intel is up against a quad core AMD processor? or is the intel dual core still more powerful? With a discrete GPU of equal power the i3 will be noticeably faster than the A8 in every way you could use it.

Looking for an LGA775 quad core CPU for upgradei have very old pc i use for gaming (i use my laptop for other stuff) and i would like to upgrade. right now it has:pentium e2200 dual core 2.2 ghz2gb of ddr2 800mhz memoryg31 chipsetasus 8400gs 256mb overclocked and passively cooledi would like to get to 2 more gigs of memory for the maximum of 4gb that this chipset supports, change the gpu (my plan is to go for gigabyte gt730 1gb gddr5 or any other gpu in that price range, also it is the cheapest gddr5 and 1ghz gpu and also it is small enough, consider there arent a lot of gpus here where i live so the other gpus i can afford are r5 230, r7 240 and maaaaybe 250 with ddr3 mem) and my question is which cpu should i buy off amazon, used? or more specifically q6600 or q8200, and if i can run any with my own stock intel cooler temporarily so i can get some money for cooler as i dont have enough for a nice one, after that i will overclock whichever i get to about 3ghz.
