i3-4340
  • The i3-4340 has higher Level 2 Cache. Data/instructions which have to be processed can be loaded from the fast L2 and the CPU does not have to wait for the very slow DDR RAM
  • The i3-4340 has higher Level 3 Cache. This is useful when you have substantial multiprocessing workloads, many computationally intense simultaneous processes. More likely on a server, less on a personally used computer for interactive desktop workloads.
  • The i3-4340 has more cores. The benefit of having more cores is that the system can handle more threads. Each core can handle a separate stream of data. This architecture greatly increases the performance of a system that is running concurrent applications.
  • The i3-4340 has more threads. Larger programs are divided into threads (small sections) so that the processor can execute them simultaneously to get faster execution.
  • For some games, a cpu with a higher clock speed, or in a technical name IPC (Instructions per clock), has better results than other CPU's with higher core count and lower core speed.
i3-9100
  • The i3-9100 is more power efficient and generates less heat.
  • The i3-9100 has a smaller process size. The faster a transistor can toggle on and off, the faster it can do work. And transistors that turn on and off with less energy are more efficient, reducing the operating power, or “dynamic power consumption,” required by a processor.

Is core i3-4340 good for gaming? On slight budgetOr will the lack of cores not make it worth it?Other components are gtx 650ti boost8gb ddr3cx 430w psu

AMD FX CPUs are power hungry. I believe even the 6 core FX-6300 consumes 100w more power than Intel's Core i3. Therefore, if you want to go with AMD then you need a more powerful PSU. I would not even attempt to put a FX-8xxx CPU in a mATX case. Too much heat and you don't really need 8 cores. The motherboard you select only has a 760G chipset so you will not be able to upgrade to Steamroller which needs a 9xx series chipset. Games using only 1 or 2 cores will run better with the Core i3, but games that can take advantage of more than 2 cores will generally run better with FX CPU.Crysis 3 is an extreme case where a Core i3 performs poorly. Any other games using the CryEngine 3 game engine will likely not set the CPU demands as high as Crysis 3. The higher the requirements the fewer copies the publisher will sell. Unless Crysis 3 is on your list, the Core i3 is still a viable CPU and you can upgrade to a Core i5 CPU later. If you don't want to bother with upgrades in the future, then just go with a FX-6xxx CPU.You can check out CPU benchmarks in several games from the following website to help you determine which CPU to go for. Simply click, then scroll down to the Gaming GPU/CPU Performance section for several games benchmarked. Then look for the CPU Performance benchmark in each game.http://www.techspot.com/guides-gaming.shtmlARMA 3 is the most recent review. I would also go with the i5 as it will be good for cpu intensive games. I don't know the performance difference but you could look at that online for benchmarks

Also, i3s are GREAT chips and are all MOST people need.My little bro still has a i3 2120 pushing his GTX 660 ti and he maxes out most games on a pretty nice 1080p monitor. There is absolutely NO need for him to upgrade anytime soon.

Intel Core i3 4340 Bottleneck the amd 280xHello, I am building a computer for my friend and I am stuck between the amd 6300 and intel core i3 4340. I was wondering if the i3 would bottleneck the amd r9 280x. If anyone could tell me how to find out if a cpu will bottleneck a gpu would be greatly appreciated.

I think the i3 4340 would be fine. It has some seriously powerful single thread performance. We know the FX 6300 works well, but the FX 8320 is about the same price as the i3 4340. i3s are no slouches in games. Especially on a single 1080p monitor. Of course an i5 would be better......It's all about the budget.

Overclocking i3 4340 lock haswell 3.6ghz to 3.7I have seen a guys cpu-z screenshot where his 4340 was running at 3.7 and he had mentioned something about BCLK/straps 100mhzDoes anyone know how to do this and is it limited by motherboard?

It is limited by the motherboard.I wouldn;'t mess with that unless you really know what you are doing(and you don;t if you ask this). While on SKylake BCLK OCing is ok, with Haswell it's a totally differt beast. In simple terms, on Haswell, when you increase the BCLK you're overclocking everything, not just the CPU. There are ways to ammend this, but, if you want to get into it, you're in for a steep learning curve.
