Apart from a few rare exceptions, all retail Intel motherboard support all CPUs related to their respective product cycle and quite often, most CPUs using the same CPU socket - albeit after a BIOS update if the manufacturer bothers with producing one.The concern about a motherboard supporting a same-socket, same-generation CPU upgrade is mostly for premade computer from large OEMs like HP and Dell.When in doubt, check the manual / manufacturer specs.

Core 2 Quad q6600 or Core 2 Duo e8400?I'm running an Optiplex 780 with 16gb of ram, a core 2 quad e8400 3 GHz and a GT 1030. I noticed that my gpu is majorly bottlenecking my gpu and I was wondering weather a quad core such as the q6600 2.4 GHz will keep up with my gpu or will the .6 GHz speed decrease also end up bottlenecking my gpu as well? If so, which core 2 quad would be suitable for my gpu?

Most games rely heavily on single-threaded performance. Trading frequency for extra cores may hurt more often than it helps.If you really want to upgrade that computer, see if its motherboard supports the Core 2 Quad 9650. Personally, I'd save for a Ryzen 1200 platform upgrade instead of spending money on a 10 years old Core 2. (I would consider the i3-8100 too if B/H-series motherboards were available but those aren't coming 'till next year.)

The best gpu for intel core 2 duo E8400Hi to everyone,I have an intel core 2 duo E8400 3 Ghz and 4 GB Ram. I have the old Asus EAH HD 4650 1 GB DDR2. I am considering to buy a new GPU for my pc. What is the best GPU for core 2 duo E8400? I know that I cannot play much games in ultra, but I want better game performance than that of HD 4650 and I do not want bad bottleneck in the games. I heard that GTX 650ti, GTX 750ti, Radeon R7 260x or 265x may be suitable and also a lot of people say that Nvidia is better.I request your help.

gtx 750 ti should be better than the r7 265 .. of the two i would go with the 750 ti ,better driver support less heat and power

Core 2 Duo E8400 or Core 2 Quad Q6600So the thing is my Current system is -Windows 10Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 Ghz8 GB RAM Nvidia GTX 750 I can play current games fine in decent frames at a low to medium graphic setting ,they run decently but games like Mafia 3 and so on require you to have SSE 4.1 which the Core 2 Quad Q6600 does not have,But on the other hand my brothers old PC has a Core 2 Duo E8400 in it ,and i presume that supports SSE 4.1Will it be worth borrowing it from him ,will the games run on E8400 as they have been running for me now on the Q6600 ,i know these are pretty old but for the current time being they work and fulfill my needs as i plan to upgrade by January So can i play mafia 3 on this E8400 and will it perform the same as the Core 2 Quad Q6600 did when it came to gamingAny help would be much appreciated ,thanks in advance

Between a Q6600 and a E8400 as a budget solution for recent games, I would choose neither.The E8400 is only a dual core and that by itself is an issue with modern titles.The Q6600 might be a quad core, but in games that actually benefit from that it will still be pretty slow. If you're luchy you might get it somewhere around 3.6 GHz where coling will become an issue without expensive watercooling.Id go witha Q950/9650 for the LGA775 platform. Or even with a 45nm LGA775 or LGA771 Xeon.These are basically the same chips and overcloking is nothing different from the C2Q's.If you have enough money, i would suggest going with a more recent platform.The i5-6400 is a good option, but depending on the games an i3-6320 might be slightly faster due to it's higher clock speed and hyperthreading (Which also gives it 4 threads to operate). But only in some games.I wouldn't go with the older Hasswell chips, unless the price difference between a Haswell i5 + LGA1150 motherboard + 8-16 GB DDR3-1866+ RAM is big enough in comparison to a Skylake i5 + LGA1151 motherboard + 8-16 GB DDR4-2400+ RAM.
