Our Verdict: With some tuning, the RTX 4090 makes the most sense for gamers with 4K monitors and it is better than RTX 3070 Ti by a margin. Though serious gamers hardly play at 4k. For everyone else, especially those on 1080p or even 1440p monitors, the RTX 3070 Ti could be the better value choice in the short term. The RTX 4090 is faster by 96% for 1440p gaming. However, RTX 3070 Ti is still capable of producing more than 60 frames per second. For 1080p games, upgrading from RTX 3070 Ti to RTX 4090 is not worth it if targeting 60 frames per second. The price/performance ratio is much better for RTX 3070 Ti .

Spec for spec, this RTX 4090 leapfrogs its direct predecessor, the RTX 3090, by boasting 44.5 % more fps. Compared to its AMD 's closest rival, RX 7900 XT, the RTX 4090 was 21.9 % faster.

Fortunately, gaming performance was quite impressive. The RTX 4090 consistently delivers great frame rate increases over the RTX 3090 and it really justifies an upgrade. For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play Starfield, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Immortals of Aveum, The Callisto Protocol, Remnant II at 80 fps to 120 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 106 fps.

For 1440p Quad HD, we were able to play Starfield, Immortals of Aveum, Remnant II, The Callisto Protocol, Microsoft Flight Simulator at 72 fps to 93 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 81 fps. For 2160p 4K, we were able to play Atomic Heart, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Marvel's Avengers, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, Borderlands 3 at 72 fps to 92 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 79 fps.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti

Spec for spec, this RTX 3070 Ti leapfrogs its direct predecessor, the RTX 2070 SUPER, by boasting 45.9 % more fps. In our synthetic benchmarks, the RTX 3070 Ti blows past the RTX 2070 SUPER and, amazingly, even the RTX 2080 as well.

Fortunately, gaming performance was quite impressive. The RTX 3070 Ti consistently delivers great frame rate increases over the RTX 2070 SUPER and it really justifies an upgrade. Compared to its AMD 's closest rival, RX 6800, the RTX 3070 Ti was -5.2 % slower.

For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play The Callisto Protocol, Remnant II, The Last of Us Part I, Halo Infinite, Forspoken at 62 fps to 80 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 71 fps. For 1440p Quad HD, we were able to play Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Hogwarts Legacy, Dead Space, Halo Infinite, Red Dead Redemption 2 at 62 fps to 72 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 69 fps.

For 2160p 4K, we were able to play Just Cause 4, Anthem, Total War: Warhammer III, Guardians of the Galaxy, Battlefield 2042 at 61 fps to 63 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 62 fps.
