Our Verdict: With some tuning, the RTX 4090 makes the most sense for gamers with 4K monitors and it is better than RX 6800 by a margin. Though serious gamers hardly play at 4k. For everyone else, especially those on 1080p or even 1440p monitors, the RX 6800 could be the better value choice in the short term. The RTX 4090 is faster by 85% for 1440p gaming. However, RX 6800 is still capable of producing more than 60 frames per second. For 1080p games, upgrading from RX 6800 to RTX 4090 is not worth it if targeting 60 frames per second. The price/performance ratio is much better for RX 6800 .

Spec for spec, this RTX 4090 leapfrogs its direct predecessor, the RTX 3090, by boasting 44.5 % more fps. Compared to its AMD 's closest rival, RX 7900 XT, the RTX 4090 was 21.9 % faster.

Fortunately, gaming performance was quite impressive. The RTX 4090 consistently delivers great frame rate increases over the RTX 3090 and it really justifies an upgrade. For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play Starfield, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Immortals of Aveum, The Callisto Protocol, Remnant II at 80 fps to 120 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 106 fps.

For 1440p Quad HD, we were able to play Starfield, Immortals of Aveum, Remnant II, The Callisto Protocol, Microsoft Flight Simulator at 72 fps to 93 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 81 fps. For 2160p 4K, we were able to play Atomic Heart, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Marvel's Avengers, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, Borderlands 3 at 72 fps to 92 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 79 fps.

AMD Radeon RX 6800

The good news is, with the release of the RX 6800 XT, the RX 6800 's price is getting more discount. The RX 6800 is much more expensive than the RX 5700 as it costs a whopping $ 579. Compare this to the RX 5700, AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT, which came originally at a price of $ 349, $ 399. Meanwhile, the NVIDIA closest equivalent card is the RTX 3070 which costs $ 499.

Spec for spec, this RX 6800 leapfrogs its direct predecessor, the RX 5700, by boasting 75.2 % more fps. The RX 6800 has 16 GB RAM compared to the RX 5700 's 8 GB video memory.

Compared to its NVIDIA 's closest rival, RTX 3070, the RX 6800 was 10.4 % faster. Fortunately, gaming performance was quite impressive. The RX 6800 consistently delivers great frame rate increases over the RX 5700, AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT and it really justifies an upgrade.

For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play The Callisto Protocol, Remnant II, The Last of Us Part I, Halo Infinite, Forspoken at 64 fps to 82 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 72 fps. For 1440p Quad HD, we were able to play Atomic Heart, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Hogwarts Legacy, Dead Space, Halo Infinite at 61 fps to 74 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 68 fps.

For 2160p 4K, we were able to play Far Cry 6, Total War: Warhammer III, Guardians of the Galaxy, Battlefield 2042, Gears of War 5 at 61 fps to 65 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 63 fps.
