Our Verdict: Upgrading from RTX 4070 Ti to RTX 4080 is not recommended as it is less than 30% of improvement in performance. In general, a reasonable upgrade is between 30% and 50% or more to justify the purchase of new hardware. The price/performance ratio is much better for RTX 4070 Ti .

Spec for spec, this RTX 4080 leapfrogs its direct predecessor, the RTX 3080, by boasting 32.8 % more fps. The RTX 4080 has 16 GB RAM compared to the RTX 3080 's 10 GB video memory.

In our synthetic benchmarks, the RTX 4080 blows past the RTX 3080, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and, amazingly, even the RTX 3090 as well. Fortunately, gaming performance was quite impressive. The RTX 4080 consistently delivers great frame rate increases over the RTX 3080, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and it really justifies an upgrade.

For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play Starfield, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Immortals of Aveum, The Callisto Protocol, Remnant II at 69 fps to 104 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 92 fps. For 1440p Quad HD, we were able to play Starfield, Immortals of Aveum, Remnant II, The Callisto Protocol, Microsoft Flight Simulator at 63 fps to 80 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 70 fps.

For 2160p 4K, we were able to play Atomic Heart, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Marvel's Avengers, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, Borderlands 3 at 63 fps to 80 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 68 fps.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti

The RTX 4080 might be the high-end flagship of the latest Ada Lovelace set of graphics cards, but their prices keep them out of the reach of most mid-range PC gamers. On the other hand, the RTX 4070 Ti is closer to being reasonably affordable at a price tag of $ 799. Spec for spec, this RTX 4070 Ti leapfrogs its direct predecessor, the RTX 3070 Ti, by boasting 58.4 % more fps.

The RTX 4070 Ti has 12 GB RAM compared to the RTX 3070 Ti 's 8 GB video memory. In our synthetic benchmarks, the RTX 4070 Ti blows past the RTX 3070 Ti and, amazingly, even the RTX 3080 as well.

Fortunately, gaming performance was quite impressive. The RTX 4070 Ti consistently delivers great frame rate increases over the RTX 3070 Ti and it really justifies an upgrade.
