Our Verdict: With some tuning, the RTX 4080 makes the most sense for gamers with 4K monitors and it is better than RTX 3080 Ti by a margin. Though serious gamers hardly play at 4k. For everyone else, especially those on 1080p or even 1440p monitors, the RTX 3080 Ti could be the better value choice in the short term. Upgrading from RTX 3080 Ti to RTX 4080 is not recommended as it is less than 30% of improvement in performance. In general, a reasonable upgrade is between 30% and 50% or more to justify the purchase of new hardware.

Spec for spec, this RTX 4080 leapfrogs its direct predecessor, the RTX 3080, by boasting 32.8 % more fps. The RTX 4080 has 16 GB RAM compared to the RTX 3080 's 10 GB video memory.

In our synthetic benchmarks, the RTX 4080 blows past the RTX 3080, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and, amazingly, even the RTX 3090 as well. Fortunately, gaming performance was quite impressive. The RTX 4080 consistently delivers great frame rate increases over the RTX 3080, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and it really justifies an upgrade.

For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play Starfield, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Immortals of Aveum, The Callisto Protocol, Remnant II at 69 fps to 104 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 92 fps. For 1440p Quad HD, we were able to play Starfield, Immortals of Aveum, Remnant II, The Callisto Protocol, Microsoft Flight Simulator at 63 fps to 80 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 70 fps.

For 2160p 4K, we were able to play Atomic Heart, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Marvel's Avengers, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, Borderlands 3 at 63 fps to 80 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 68 fps.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti

The RTX 3090 might be the extreme flagship of the latest Ampere set of graphics cards, but their prices keep them out of the reach of most high-end PC gamers. On the other hand, the RTX 3080 Ti is closer to being reasonably affordable at a price tag of $ 799. The RTX 3080 Ti is much more cheaper than the RTX 2080 Ti as it costs $ 799. Compare this to the RTX 2080 Ti, which came originally at a price of $ 1299. Meanwhile, the AMD closest equivalent card is the RX 6900 XT which costs $ 999.
