Our Verdict: With some tuning, the RTX 4070 makes the most sense for gamers with 4K monitors and it is better than RTX 3060 by a margin. Though serious gamers hardly play at 4k. For everyone else, especially those on 1080p or even 1440p monitors, the RTX 3060 could be the better value choice in the short term. The RTX 4070 is faster by 89% for 1440p gaming. However, RTX 3060 is still capable of producing more than 60 frames per second. For 1080p games, upgrading from RTX 3060 to RTX 4070 is not worth it if targeting 60 frames per second.

On the other hand, the RTX 4070 is closer to being reasonably affordable at a price tag of $ 599. Spec for spec, this RTX 4070 leapfrogs its direct predecessor, the RTX 3070, by boasting 30.5 % more fps.

The RTX 4070 has 12 GB RAM compared to the RTX 3070 's 8 GB video memory. In our synthetic benchmarks, the RTX 4070 blows past the RTX 3070, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti and, amazingly, even the RTX 3080 as well.

Fortunately, gaming performance was quite impressive. The RTX 4070 consistently delivers great frame rate increases over the RTX 3070, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti and it really justifies an upgrade. For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play Immortals of Aveum, Microsoft Flight Simulator, The Callisto Protocol, Remnant II, The Last of Us Part I at 69 fps to 93 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 78 fps.

For 1440p Quad HD, we were able to play Microsoft Flight Simulator, Forspoken, The Last of Us Part I, Atomic Heart, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor at 64 fps to 78 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 70 fps. For 2160p 4K, we were able to play Red Dead Redemption 2, Elden Ring, A Plague Tale: Requiem, Hogwarts Legacy, Halo Infinite at 63 fps to 66 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 65 fps.

The good news is, with the release of the RTX 3060 Ti, the RTX 3060 's price is getting more discount.

NVIDIA ’s xx60 cards have always been defined by entry-level prices with performance that knocks on the door of mid-range graphics cards – especially when overclocked. After taking the time to fully test the Ampere graphics card inside the RTX 3060, we can say without a doubt that it continues the trend. Spec for spec, this RTX 3060 leapfrogs its direct predecessor, the RTX 2060, by boasting 15.3 % more fps.

The RTX 3060 has 8 GB RAM compared to the RTX 2060 's 6 GB video memory. In our synthetic benchmarks, the RTX 3060 blows past the RTX 2060, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER and, amazingly, even the RTX 2070 as well.

For 2160p 4K, we were able to play Strange Brigade, Fallout 76, Spider-Man Remastered, Call of Duty Modern Warfare, Forza Horizon 4 at 61 fps to 70 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 65 fps.
