Our Verdict: With some tuning, the RTX 4070 Ti makes the most sense for gamers with 4K monitors and it is better than RTX 3090 by a margin. Though serious gamers hardly play at 4k. Upgrading from RTX 3090 to RTX 4070 Ti is not recommended as it is less than 30% of improvement in performance. In general, a reasonable upgrade is between 30% and 50% or more to justify the purchase of new hardware. The price/performance ratio is much better for RTX 4070 Ti .

Spec for spec, this RTX 3090 leapfrogs its direct predecessor, the RTX 2080 Ti, by boasting 52.7 % more fps. The RTX 3090 has 24 GB RAM compared to the RTX 2080 Ti 's 11 GB video memory.

Fortunately, gaming performance was quite impressive. The RTX 3090 consistently delivers great frame rate increases over the RTX 2080 Ti and it really justifies an upgrade. Compared to its AMD 's closest rival, RX 6900 XT, the RTX 3090 was -1.4 % slower.

For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play Microsoft Flight Simulator, Immortals of Aveum, The Callisto Protocol, Remnant II, The Last of Us Part I at 70 fps to 92 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 80 fps. For 1440p Quad HD, we were able to play Microsoft Flight Simulator, The Last of Us Part I, Forspoken, Atomic Heart, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor at 62 fps to 83 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 73 fps.

For 2160p 4K, we were able to play Borderlands 3, Elden Ring, Halo Infinite, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, A Plague Tale: Requiem at 61 fps to 64 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 63 fps.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti

The RTX 4080 might be the high-end flagship of the latest Ada Lovelace set of graphics cards, but their prices keep them out of the reach of most mid-range PC gamers. On the other hand, the RTX 4070 Ti is closer to being reasonably affordable at a price tag of $ 799. Spec for spec, this RTX 4070 Ti leapfrogs its direct predecessor, the RTX 3070 Ti, by boasting 58.4 % more fps.

The RTX 4070 Ti has 12 GB RAM compared to the RTX 3070 Ti 's 8 GB video memory. In our synthetic benchmarks, the RTX 4070 Ti blows past the RTX 3070 Ti and, amazingly, even the RTX 3080 as well.

Fortunately, gaming performance was quite impressive. The RTX 4070 Ti consistently delivers great frame rate increases over the RTX 3070 Ti and it really justifies an upgrade. For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play Starfield, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Immortals of Aveum, The Callisto Protocol, Remnant II at 67 fps to 100 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 89 fps.

For 1440p Quad HD, we were able to play Immortals of Aveum, Remnant II, The Callisto Protocol, Microsoft Flight Simulator, The Last of Us Part I at 62 fps to 85 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 72 fps. For 2160p 4K, we were able to play Microsoft Flight Simulator, Marvel's Avengers, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, Borderlands 3, A Plague Tale: Requiem at 61 fps to 78 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 69 fps.
