Our Verdict: With some tuning, the RTX 3080 makes the most sense for gamers with 4K monitors and it is better than RTX 4050 by a margin. Though serious gamers hardly play at 4k. For everyone else, especially those on 1080p or even 1440p monitors, the RTX 4050 could be the better value choice in the short term. The RTX 3080 is faster by 84% for 1440p gaming. However, RTX 4050 is still capable of producing more than 60 frames per second. For 1080p games, upgrading from RTX 4050 to RTX 3080 is not worth it if targeting 60 frames per second. In addition, taking into account the huge price difference between the two, the RTX 4050 is a winner. The price/performance ratio is much better for RTX 4050 .

The RTX 3090 might be the extreme flagship of the latest Ampere set of graphics cards, but their prices keep them out of the reach of most high-end PC gamers. On the other hand, the RTX 3080 is closer to being reasonably affordable at a price tag of $ 699. The good news is, with the release of the RTX 3080 Ti, the RTX 3080 's price is getting more discount.

Spec for spec, this RTX 3080 leapfrogs its direct predecessor, the RTX 2080, by boasting 69.4 % more fps. The RTX 3080 has 10 GB RAM compared to the RTX 2080 's 8 GB video memory.

Fortunately, gaming performance was quite impressive. The RTX 3080 consistently delivers great frame rate increases over the RTX 2080, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti and it really justifies an upgrade. Compared to its AMD 's closest rival, RX 6800 XT, the RTX 3080 was -1.6 % slower.

For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play Microsoft Flight Simulator, Immortals of Aveum, The Callisto Protocol, Remnant II, The Last of Us Part I at 67 fps to 85 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 75 fps. For 1440p Quad HD, we were able to play The Last of Us Part I, Forspoken, Atomic Heart, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Hogwarts Legacy at 65 fps to 85 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 73 fps.

For 2160p 4K, we were able to play Halo Infinite, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, GreedFall, Cyberpunk 2077, Godfall at 61 fps to 64 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 62 fps.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050

The RTX 4060 might be the high-end flagship of the latest Ada Lovelace set of graphics cards, but their prices keep them out of the reach of most mid-range PC gamers. On the other hand, the RTX 4050 is closer to being reasonably affordable at a price tag of $ 200. NVIDIA ’s xx50 cards have always been defined by mid-range prices with performance that knocks on the door of high-end graphics cards – especially when overclocked. After taking the time to fully test the Ada Lovelace graphics card inside the RTX 4050, we can say without a doubt that it continues the trend.

Spec for spec, this RTX 4050 leapfrogs its direct predecessor, the RTX 3050, by boasting 34.8 % more fps. The RTX 4050 has 8 GB RAM compared to the RTX 3050 's 4 GB video memory.

In our synthetic benchmarks, the RTX 4050 blows past the RTX 3050, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti and, amazingly, even the RTX 3060 as well. Fortunately, gaming performance was quite impressive. The RTX 4050 consistently delivers great frame rate increases over the RTX 3050, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti and it really justifies an upgrade.

For 2160p 4K, we were able to play F1 2019, World War Z, Apex Legends, Spider-Man Remastered, Strange Brigade at 61 fps to 65 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 64 fps.
