An i3 4130/4150 would be better than the Q9650. The Q9650 has to be well overclocked to get close to an old ivy i3.

Inter Core 2 Quad Q9650 Temp???!!!!!!Hello guys i upgraded from q9400 to q9650 so guys when i was on q9400 on the heavy load and gaming my temps didnt go over 55C but on my new q9650 idle cores are 40-50 and when gaming and load between 50-70 so is there a problem or just the q9650 make more heat ???

You nailed it, Q9650 produces more heat. Both CPUs are based on identical technology, just the frequency is higher on 9650. Hence the increased heat. 70C is not too much for Intel - at least not if it is not a constant temperature. I would just make sure that case has decent airflow and is clean. If that temp really bugs you, you can always get a better cooler.

Yes for 720p it would be more than enough for sure ( if combined with a decent GPU of course).

Core 2 Quads are dated, I myself am using a Q8400 overclocked machine, it served me well in the first era of the "new gen games", even holds up rather well on The Witcher 3, but it will bottleneck even a GTX 750 Ti on the upcoming games and current new games and even the performance on Windows, do all you can to get at least an i5 4th gen or even the new Skylake i3 6100, which is what I am aiming for right now, my GTX 950 simply cant run the new games due to the massive CPU limitation I have, even with the overclock. You will not get much improvement, you could get a lot of improvement if you OC your C2Q to 4.00 GHz and beyond, but that requires custom cooling, a very capable and expensive 775, hard to find and most of the time, used mobo and a powerful PSU, not worth the hassle imo, just get a newer gen CPU, any 4th gen i3 or i5 is better than all C2Qs out there and you can throw even a GTX 980 at them and there wont be any bottleneck or very, very small at some games. Dont forget to add 8GB of RAM too. Good luck.

Core 2 Quad Q9650 on a Q965 chipsetIm planning on buying my friends last machine, An HP DC7700. I am wanting to upgrade the CPU from a Duo E4400 to the Q9560. Ive heard from some that it wont work on the chipset. Would it work. Im looking for the machine to do some work, instead of sitting around as a paper weight.

No, that chipset doesn't support Core 2 Quad chips. Source: http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel_%28chipsets%29/Q965_Express.htmlWhere do you live? I have a board that supports quad core chips (it was previously running my Q8300) and I can mail it to you for free if you're in the UK. Otherwise boards go for as cheap as £25 on Ebay.Woody
