i7-4770
  • The i7-4770 has higher Level 3 Cache. This is useful when you have substantial multiprocessing workloads, many computationally intense simultaneous processes. More likely on a server, less on a personally used computer for interactive desktop workloads.
  • The i7-4770 has more cores. The benefit of having more cores is that the system can handle more threads. Each core can handle a separate stream of data. This architecture greatly increases the performance of a system that is running concurrent applications.
  • The i7-4770 has more threads. Larger programs are divided into threads (small sections) so that the processor can execute them simultaneously to get faster execution.
  • For some games, a cpu with a higher clock speed, or in a technical name IPC (Instructions per clock), has better results than other CPU's with higher core count and lower core speed.
  • The i7-4770 has a higher turbo clock boost. Turbo Boost is a CPU feature that will run CPU clock speed faster than its base clock, if certain conditions are present. It will enable older software that runs on fewer cores, to perform better on newer hardware. Since games are software too, it is also applicable to them.
  • The i7-4770 has a smaller process size. The faster a transistor can toggle on and off, the faster it can do work. And transistors that turn on and off with less energy are more efficient, reducing the operating power, or “dynamic power consumption,” required by a processor.
Phenom II X2 550
  • The Phenom II X2 550 has higher Level 2 Cache. Data/instructions which have to be processed can be loaded from the fast L2 and the CPU does not have to wait for the very slow DDR RAM
  • The Phenom II X2 550 is more power efficient and generates less heat.

i5 4670K Vs. i7 4770KOk, so I'm going to build a computer soon and I am still not sure whether to go with the i5 or the i7. I will be gaming and making videos for school and YouTube. I will be playing games like BF4 & 3, Bioshock Infinite, Arma 2 & 3, Dayz, Call Of Duty Black Ops 1 & 2, Crysis 3, Mirrors Edge, Titanfall, The Crew (When it comes out) and maybe GTA 5 (If it ever comes out for PC). Sorry if I didn't include some crucial info. Thanks in advance :P

Since you have included the information that you may be creating videos, you'll likely see better performance with the i7. In the games, you will perhaps only see a few fps gained by going with the i7 over the i5.It should be noted that both of these will do very well in the tasks you're looking at, just that the i7 will be slightly better, so it becomes a budgetary concern. Is the cost increase worth the small performance increase? Also, the i7 will invariably be more future-proof.If you can afford to, I always recommend going with the more powerful product. Not only is it likely to last you longer, but you'll feel better yourself for buying it. As humans, we often look back at when we didn't go for the best possible option with a little tinge of regret. Grab the i7 if possible and check out the review of the new Intel chips on the main page, you'll find that in bagging that particular chip, you've pretty much got the best gaming chip for the money right now.

Intel Core i7 4770 (Haswell) TemperaturesEver since I started meticulously monitoring my CPU's temperature I've noticed it going as high at 78C on games such at TF2 and Stellaris (during the late game when a ton of calculations need to happen all at once). The worst I've ever seen it go was as high at 83 (on just the one core) during a rather hot day with a rather hefty load on the CPU.I have no real control over the ambient temperature short of aiming a fan at it and the average outside temperate is around 35C. Even so the CPU has quite a high tolerance for temperature, Core Temp considers 80 to be 'Hot' for it, and the Tj. Max sits at 100C.How much concerned should I really be?Note: I use a "Balanced" power plan for my PC, which is running Windows 7.

You can't compare if your ambient temperature is normal; it would be very difficult to only reach 60°C at 35°C ambient. I agree that 83°C isn't a concern for that CPU; replacing the thermal paste won't make much of a difference.

i7 4770 UpgradeIs it worth upgrading from an i7-4770 (which was bought by mistake), with a H87 motherboard, to an i7-4790K and a Z97 gaming 7 motherboard? I would overclock to around 4.4-4.5 GHz.

I wouldn't do that, the CPU is pretty much awesome for gaming or rendering, in gaming the OC will yield you say 10-25% increase at max, while costing $500, not worth the upgrade IMO. I'd simply get (if you're into gaming) a Z MoBo for SLI or CF at x8, which's optimal for high end cards. H MoBo don't run the second card at x8, so Z MoBo is what I'd prefer.

i7 4770k vs i7 4930kI'm looking for some advice between picking the two for my computer build. I know that generally the choice is down to what i'm going to be doing with my build once all is said and done. For myself, I plan on editing and rendering videos, photoshop work and other CPU intensive jobs. Would the 4930k take advantage of the situation by having more cores, or would the 4770k win simply because it's the 4770k and it's a fantastic CPU regardless? I also plan on oc'ing it with a Swiftech H220x

i7 4790s vs i7 4770kWhich i7 cpu should I get? Which cpu has the best performance, temperatures, etc?

Okay in terms of performance they go as follows.1. 4790k2. 4770k3. 4790s4. Xion E3-1230V3The reason for this, is that the 4790s is a low power CPU. Its only a 65w TDP while the 4770K is an 84w TDP and uses much more power. The 4790s at stock has better single threaded performance at 4Ghz, compared to the 4770ks 3.9Ghz, and as a result might have slightly higher performance in some situations by 100Mhz. However, the base speed of the 4790s is 3.2Ghz and the i7-4770k is 3.5Ghz, which means if the CPU is running hot or there is a lot of heat in the case or something and it won't turbo and then the i7-4770k is going to be faster by 300Mhz.On top of that, the i7-4770k can be overclocked and usually can reach 4.2Ghz easily which will make it faster than the 4790s in all situations, and that is a pretty low weak overclock.
