i5 4590 vs i5 4690 (R9 390)Hi guys,I am going to purchase a new CPU and Cannot decide between the i5 4590 and the 4690 (non k) I am tempted to get the cheaper i5 4590 because in Australia it is $55 cheaper. My question is whether or not the i5 4690 is worth the upgrade, or if i should just get the i5 4590?I currently have a fx-6300 and an r9 390 and want the i5 to remove the bottleneck.I will get the MSI H81M-E34 LGA 1150 mATX Motherboard.

get the i5, it's much much faster than the FX8350 even when you OC itright now 8GB RAM will be enough anyway but it's not like RAM costs a fortune, so upgrading to 16GB if needed shouldn't be the issue

Intel Core i5-4590 vs i5-4690The only thing i'm not proud of in my computer is my processor, it's an i3-4130, dual core and just meh. I want to do a little upgrade, i've seen that the i5-4690 is at the same level of most i7's. Now i want more of a personal recommendation, should get the i5-4590 instead and save $50? (according to prices in my country). I do gaming, not much, but i'm a huge enthusiast. I'm a student (if that influences the recommendation).

The 4590 would be a good upgrade. It's not worth the $50 in my opinion for 200mhz clock speed difference (turbo boost) for the 4690. The 4690 turbo's up to 3.9ghz, the 4590 up to 3.7ghz and the 4460 only up to 3.4ghz. Usually the cost difference is much less between the 4460 and 4590 for a 300mhz improvement (in the 4590) while as you mentioned a fairly steep price difference between the 4590 and 4690 for only 200mhz speed difference.Your local pricing will make more of an impact. For example in the u.s., the 4590 is only $11 more than the 4460. The 4690 is $20 more than the 4590. In this case, $11 buys 300mhz of speed going from 4460 to 4590 while $20 only buys 200mhz from the 4590 to 4690. Twice the cost and 2/3 the speed improvement is poor value in comparison.

i5-4590 + GTX 970. Upgrade to RTX 2070 ?HiI currently have a i5-4590 and a GTX 970, playing at 1080p 60hz. I cannot play every recent games with maxed graphics at 60fps.I'm planning to rebuild a computer with an i7-9700k + RTX 2070 next year. (currently saving money for it)Question: Is it worth it to buy the RTX 2070 as soon as it release and pair it with my i5-4590 until i can buy the i7-9700k ? I'm aware that my current CPU will be a huge bottleneck, but will i still see some improvement over my current GTX 970 ? Or should i just wait and buy it all together next yer ?Thanks

I'd wait tell a price drop. Your CPU will be fine in many games but the days of 4C/4T CPUs being ideal for gaming are over. Enough games now use (note I did not say require) more then 4 threads. As mentioned above you can see if your being bottlenecked by looking at CPU usage. If your at 100% now in any given game a faster GPU will have little to no effect. You can also test your CPU approximate max frame rate in any give game by lowering all settings as low as they go and dropping the resolution as far as you can. Benchmark your game then and what ever FPS your getting, assuming you hit close to max CPU usage (in lightly threaded games the primary thread needs to be at 100% in well threaded games the 3-6+ threads need to be maxed out or very close) which should also be monitored, now what ever that frame rate is your CPU should be able to crank out at any resolution with all graphical settings maxed out assuming your GPU is strong enough. I hope that helps.Anyways the short of this is yes your CPU can use the RTX 2070. Some well threaded games you won't get the full use of the card but when you get a new CPU with 8 threads your GPUs power will be fully unlocked so to speak. Now the elephant in the room is the RTX 2070 is dropping this week. Prices are very high and the market segment has been moved up one notch for each card in terms of price. This is a lot. Now as a RTX 2070 buyer you're paying the old GTX XX80 prices. In a few months time things should become a little more reasonable. And if your not dead set on the RTX capabilities...there are used/new GTX 1080Ti's on sale left and right for low prices and similar performance (rumored) in games minus the new RTX and AI cores capabilities like ray tracing and DLSS. Just my two cents.

i5 4590 UpgradeI am currently using an i5 4590 with a Zotac GTX 1080 mini and 8 gigs of RAM.I want to upgrade to i7 4790K.I use my PC only for gaming and nothing more. What I wanted to know is whether I will be getting a big difference in performance while playing games. My primary objective for this upgrade is to play games in 1080p with all the graphics settings maxed out with a steady frame rate of 60 FPS.Basically I want a no compromise 1080p Gaming Machine.

ASUS H81M-CS is not a bad board, but your improvement in performance, will not be 30% as stated earlier, more like 20% in reality. and you will not be able to overclock that I7 at all on that H81 board. now I am not saying you should not do it. but if you where ready to spend 300$ on a cpu alone. maybe you should consider, saving more and do a proper upgrade, as Z87 and Z97 boards are hard to find, and run 150-200$ which in my eyes combined with the price of the cpu doesn't justify NOT going to a I7- 4th gen. but it is your budget and yes it will improve your system.I suggestPCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchantCPU: Intel - Core i7-7700K 4.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($334.89 @ Amazon) Motherboard: Asus - PRIME Z270-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($144.99 @ Amazon) Memory: Team - Vulcan 16GB (1 x 16GB) DDR4-2400 Memory ($124.99 @ Newegg) Total: $604.87
