Intel Pentium G2030 vs Intel i3-4170I currently own an LGA 1155 Pentium G2030 3Ghz Dual Core CPU.Im looking at upgrading to a new motherboard as in my area there are no more LGA 1155 i3's or i5's available. From being at a Pentium G2030, would I notice any difference in terms of gaming if I was to purchase an i3-4170? I realise I should just save for an i5, but here an i5 costs about $150 more than an i3, and I dont have that money at this moment. My reasoning in upgrading to the i3-4170 would be so I can then purchase an i5 probably the middle of next year, as Im hoping Skylake doesnt completely remove all LGA 1150 cpus from the market just yet. Would there be any difference, is it worthwhile for games such as BF4, Arma 3, CSGO at 1080p.

I see.. then I strongly suggest you to collect a bit more money and get i5 right away. That way you won't be losing money on shipping again and performance would be much better. I would suggest getting i5-4670 cpu and H87 mobo (or H97 if you want to spend more money). If you want to overclock processor then i5 4690k and asus z97-a but it would be more expensive.

Intel Pentium G3258 vs I3-4170Which is better between the G3258 and the I3-4170 if you overclock the Pentium to around 4ghz?Also how does the AMD X4 860k compare to those 2?

The i3-4170 is a little gem of a processor, I can't find the benchmarks right now but I was doing some research the other week and with it's very high clock speed and hyper threading it actually outperformed several of the lower clocked Haswell I5's in some gaming tests.I would only choose the Pentium if I was on a really tight budget or wanted to play with overclocking but even then I think the Athlon would be a better bet for budget overclocking.

i3-4170 vs i3-6xxx series?OK so with the launch of Skylake, the prices of the LGA 1150 series CPUs will drop slightly, and as I am looking to upgrade will Skylake be a good option?Currently got some old Pentium Dual Core and dont want to spend the money for an i5. Can we expect there to be a huge performance increase over the newer Skylake CPUs? Or is it a waste of money for such a low end chip? The reason I'd like to go with Skylake is that along with it being brand new, I would then upgrade to the i5/i7 6600k next year sometime if I feel the need and then move the i3 over to my second work station. Will the Skylake i3's, paired with 8GB DDR4 RAM be substantial to last me a year maybe a year and a half for light gaming at 1080p and the occasional programming. Is it worth the money to go for the newer tech or to stay back and save some money with the price decrease in the older chips?

Going from Haswell to skylake, equivalent cpus is about ~10% gain in instructions per clock. Not worth it if you're talking only one generation. I am still on a quad core ivy bridge and won't upgrade until the next iteration.

Upgrading from FX4300 to i3 4170.A friend of mine is rocking a FX 4300 and a GTX 760, but he wants to play PUBG, so he's looking to upgrade his CPU, we found a used i3 4170 and a MSI H81M-P33 for 80euros. Is it worth the upgrade?

better a bit yeah, but PUBG is still a pretty CPU heavy game, and may well be too much for even the i3.

Locked means you cannot overclock the CPU (non-"k" CPU's like i3-4170, i5-4460, i5-4590, etc.). Unlocked means you can overclock the CPU ("k" CPU's like i5-4690k and i7-4790k).
