5ghz would be hard to obtain on the Phenom II line, 6ghz, if I remember right, was a record for AMD on a single core on the Phenom II.The chip will OC better when it's colder, like way below room temp.

AMD FX 8350 8-core over AMD Phenom II X2 545?First of all, hey everyone. I just build a "free" computer with these features; motherboard: MSI 970 AM3+. CPU: AMD Phenom II X2 545. GPU: GTX 1050 2GB. RAM: 4GB. Your problem is your Phenom II is a dual core. That motherboard looks like it can handle a more powerful CPU with no problem, so you have some options. My advice is to get the fastest Phenom II X4 or the fastest FX 6xxx or 8xxx series CPU you can afford. The Phenom II and FX performance scales up as the clockspeeds go up, so it's critical that you get the fastest one you can. What you don't need are more than an X4 or FX 6xxx(if it's a fast one). You'll get the majority of game performance out of an FX 6xxx that you would get from an 8xxx series. If you can get an 8xxx series at close to the same price then that's fine, but don't pay a lot extra for one.With the CPU upgrade combined with your 1050 and 8gb system ram you'll have a workable budget gaming computer.
