CPU OverheatingHi guys, Randomly get BSOD during gaming and been trying to arrive at the cause and get a solution and think I'm getting there. Ran Memtest and Intel Processor Diagnostic (both 100% passed) as well as reinstalling Windows, the MoBo drivers and reinstalling the BIOS, however still get BSODs when playing more modern games, Total War Warhammer atm. Installed HW monitor this week and looked at the stats, all seems good for my rig except that my CPU can get to 90 degrees. Went on the intel website for my model and it's max temperature is 74 degrees. This could explain the kernel power BSODs because would the PC be turning itself off to prevent damage to hardware? I can often hear the stock cooler stopping and starting during games. Yeah, I know ... well ... the essence of the topic always seems to be in the details. It's amazing how quick one-liners always succeed in flinging misinformation around like Gorilla Poo in a cage, but it takes paragraphs of explanations with illustrations to clean up the mess.Since there's such an abundance of conflicting misinformation on the Internet and Forums concerning Intel's clear-as-mud specifications, I've never found a way to make these points unmistakably clear without some sort of detailed explanations and links to back it up ... or is it just my OCD? Whoa ... there's a Guide for this ... maybe if we could somehow get everyone to check out the Stickies ...

Core Voltage for i7 4790kHello i have not oc'd since i had my core 2 quad q6600. and i am still new to all these specific voltage settings.i have a z97 pc mate from msi and just trying to get a very mild oc around 4.5ghz.. i have been stable on an override of 1.9 volts but have gone low as 1.8 but have been confused on why it can be stable on this low of a voltage as ive seen from others not being able to do this? when i look at HWmonitor it shows 1.189v but in things like aida64 it shows 1.208v why is this. i haven't got any auto voltage set on the board from what i can find in the bios. (also to consider my cinebench goes down when i lower voltage if that helps)

4790K will provide the best FPS using a 970 will be 10-15% depending on title. If you use a 60HZ monitor the difference might not be as noticeable. I would probably suggest going with a 1600 for gaming though depending on funds. Or wait for the new Intel Cannon Lake 6 core CPU's coming out beginning next month. The 4790K can cost ~$300+ which is a lot of money for an older CPU. Moving to a newer platform will be more expensive with the 1500X you will need a new motherboard and RAM. The advantage of AM4 motherboard will be an upgrade path to new technology, Ryzen 12nm, 7nm will also you AM4.PCPartPicker part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NXDTRGPrice breakdown by merchant: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NXDTRG/by_merchant/CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 1500X 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($169.89 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: ASRock - Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming K4 ATX AM4 Motherboard ($81.98 @ Newegg) Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($138.99 @ Newegg) Total: $390.86Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when availableGenerated by PCPartPicker 2017-09-25 23:20 EDT-0400PCPartPicker part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/PtfDFdPrice breakdown by merchant: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/PtfDFd/by_merchant/CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 1600 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor ($196.44 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: ASRock - Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming K4 ATX AM4 Motherboard ($81.98 @ Newegg) Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($138.99 @ Newegg) Total: $417.41Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when availableGenerated by PCPartPicker 2017-09-25 23:21 EDT-0400

i7 4790k vs i7 4930kBoth of these CPUs look to have great performance without jumping into the Haswell-E line and X99/DDR4 RAM. Essentially I want my build to primarily be used for video editing and rendering, live streaming and some photoshop work. I also plan on oc'ing as well as future proofing my computer for at least 3 years. Gaming is a part of it but isn't at the front of my list of priorities. Essentially the breakdown of the 4790k vs 4930k is More cores vs better single core performance. For my above mentioned tasks, would having the six cores benefit me more then having better individual core performance but only having 4 cores?

I7 4790K Overclocking results adviceSo I just spent about 2-3 hrs trying to overclock my CPU and I think is the best I'm gonna get.At 1.235VFrom 4.00 to 4.6ghz10 mins Prime95 testing at max load peaked at 80C for my 2nd core, the others peaked at 73, 77 and 77. Idle temps are around 41-43CGaming temps are about 56-59CAnybody who knows anything about overclocking. Are these temps safe? Should I stick with this? I don't think I'll be able to get better results, but I'm unsure since this is my first time overclocking.I'm using the Cooler Master V8 Air Cooler.I wish I could push it to about 4.8. It stays at around 70-80 at 4.8 using Prime95 but randomly spikes up to 90-100 every time all of a sudden then goes back to 70-80s.
