i3-2100
  • The i3-2100 is more power efficient and generates less heat.
i7-11700K
  • The i7-11700K has higher Level 3 Cache. This is useful when you have substantial multiprocessing workloads, many computationally intense simultaneous processes. More likely on a server, less on a personally used computer for interactive desktop workloads.
  • The i7-11700K has more cores. The benefit of having more cores is that the system can handle more threads. Each core can handle a separate stream of data. This architecture greatly increases the performance of a system that is running concurrent applications.
  • The i7-11700K has more threads. Larger programs are divided into threads (small sections) so that the processor can execute them simultaneously to get faster execution.
  • For some games, a cpu with a higher clock speed, or in a technical name IPC (Instructions per clock), has better results than other CPU's with higher core count and lower core speed.
  • The i7-11700K has a higher turbo clock boost. Turbo Boost is a CPU feature that will run CPU clock speed faster than its base clock, if certain conditions are present. It will enable older software that runs on fewer cores, to perform better on newer hardware. Since games are software too, it is also applicable to them.
  • The i7-11700K has a smaller process size. The faster a transistor can toggle on and off, the faster it can do work. And transistors that turn on and off with less energy are more efficient, reducing the operating power, or “dynamic power consumption,” required by a processor.

There are plenty of games that will not stay above 60fps on a modern i5, regardless of what video card you have. Asking whether it will bottleneck your GTX 960 is meaningless; better to ask if it can supply your desired framerates in the games you play.

Worth upgrading from i3-2100 to i5-3570k?I am currently planning on getting an i5-3570k just so I can match it with my GTX 1060 but I'm doubting if it's gonna make a huge difference or not. My current CPU bottlenecks my graphic card most of the time and I don't want the same thing with the i5-3570k. Should I go for it? Thanks for any replies (Note: My motherboard takes 2/3 Gen CPUs)

Actually its going to cost you an extra $100 for a slower CPU. The i3-8350K is $168 where as the I5-3570K is $275. Then the I3-8350k is about 25% faster not to speak of leaked max overclock of 5.2Ghz. The new 1151v2 will also support cannon lake 8 cores next year so your also looking at upgrade path advantage. I suggest you get the i3-8350k for $168, Z370 for about $100, and then your really only out the extra say $60 for 8 GB's of DDR4 RAM.Here is lowest priced I5 for your motherboard.PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchantCPU: Intel - Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($275.00 @ Amazon) Total: $275.00Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when availableGenerated by PCPartPicker 2017-10-03 19:43 EDT-0400

So basically, the i5-3350P is mostly for lower TDP , rather than best performance in class.
