overclocking i7 3820i have an i7 38203.6ghz on a p9x79 motherboard from asus with a seidon 120v aio cooler on itI want to overclock this card but i am unable to do so through the bios settings model 3408Can somebody help me in this matter as all tutorials i have watched are of latest gen i7s and im a newbie to overclocking Please ?

That CPU is partially unlocked. You can set the multipier up to 43, and any overclock higher than 4.3GHz would require raising the BCLK, which usually maxes out at 103-105.

i7 3820 ReplacementNow, my i7 3820 is not dead (yet). Its been running at 4.625Ghz with a offset overclock, all c-states enabled, speedstep, on a asus p9x79, cooled by a h100i. (p9x79 is only about a year old) The i7 3820 is about 3 and half years old.What should I replace the 3820 with when it dies? I would go with a i7 4820k, but I don't see any on amazon or newegg, they seem like they no longer sell them. I could buy from Ebay, but I don't know if that is a good thing to do for a cpu.All I do is game. I got the i7 on a really good deal.

To be more specific the X79 boards are DDR3 and support up through the 4th Gen chips. X99 boards are DDR4 and support up to 5th and 6th gen chips. 6th gen isn't really worth it, they increased the base price too much and they don't overclock as well as the 5th gen chips.Have to wait for LGA3647 and the 7th gen, probably in well over year. They will be moving to Hexa channel DDR4 as well is my understanding. (Hopefully they make some CPUs that don't have/need the FPGA part of the chip)

Should i finally replace my i7 3820?Hey there, Iv been around for some time, but never became a member for some reason. Now i need your thoughts though Right now i got these 2 builds.#1: i7 3820, Asus P9X79 m-board, 16 ggb ddr3 1600, r9 290x tri-x#2: i5 3570k, Asrock z77 extreme4, 16 gb ddr 1600, integrated gpu. The i5 is my media server, the i7 is used for gaming and some video editing, no heavy stuff. In firestrike standard test my i7 3820 gets 10 528 physics score @ 4,2ghz, not that bad i guess (59c and 1,29 vcore). If I do decide for a new gaming rig then 3820 are better as a server then the 3570k. The HTT should make for some better transcoding. My new upgrade would be the i7 6700K, do you think its worth it? Or should i wait and see what Zen & Skylake can do.
