i5 4440s vs i5 4440I am building a computer and want to know what the difference is in 4440 and 4440s.

the S variant is a lower TDP version 65W < 84W, but I recommend the simple version from these two.

i5 4440S Upgrade for video editingI'm currently using an i5 4440s in my machine on a ecs h87h3-m motherboard with 16GB of ripjaws RAM. I'm thinking about upgrading the CPU because rendering video takes too long for me, and I generally think it's time for an upgrade. I was considering going with either the i7 4790K or 6700K. As I understand it, I'd have to upgrade my MOBO and RAM as well with these, so would I get a significant difference with the 6700K compared to the 4790K? Thanks.

You'd get more performance from the 6700k but likely not so much to justify the cost of a new cpu, mobo and ram (along with a cooler if you don't have an aftermarket cooler). The i7 6700k doesn't come with a stock cooler. You'd be better off with the 4790k I think for the price, just make sure to update your bios to make sure your board will support the newer i7.It may depend on the software you use, here's a comparison of the 4790k and 6700k using premier pro.
