core i5 2500s or Pentium G4560?I have a core i5 2500s but i want to upgrade my motherboard but no one makes LGA 1155 new motherbaords anymore and id have to buy a used mobo which i dont really want to, If i get a new mobo id get a 1151 socket type which means i cant use my 15 2500s so id need a new cpu, the main question isWould a Pentium G4560 be alright to replace my i5 2500s? My Current cpu is really old 2nd gen intel and the Pentium G4560 has a a HUGE cult following on how amazing it is and it stacks up against a current gen i5 and beats or goes even with current gen i3's (this is for gaming btw witcher 3, shadow of war league of legends and so on)

If you upgrade to LGA1151, you will also need to ditch your DDR3 memory for DDR4, which is another $80-160 to consider. The G4560 is getting its praise from bringing i3 performance down to $60. Compared to the i5-2500 though, it is merely a sidegrade at best, not really worth bothering with. If you are really itching to upgrade, try waiting for the Coffee Lake Pentiums and i3.

I know this is an old thread. I just wanted to throw this out there in case it can assist anyone else.I have always been an AMD fan. I have tinkered with an FX 8150 and a FX 6300. (I like the 6300 a lot by the way)In a bidding war I won a i3 2130 for cheap. (about $60 USD) So I bought a decent used motherboard and swapped out my FX CPU/MB for this i3 2130.The i3 2130 performs very well. Especially for the price! I play at 1080p and from what I have seen its almost as good as the FX 6300. I would say slightly below, but not by much. I have it paired with a HD 7850 and its a pretty balanced system. I use MSI afterburner to display to watch load and temperature and the GPU is usually maxed out before the CPU is. Ive been playing Crysis 3 on high settings and usually see around 30-40 FPS on high settings. Very playable. (sometimes drops in the 20s I think)Some other games, Tera online, The Evil Within, Elite Dangerous and Skyrim all play very well. So, on a final note the Sandy Bridge i3 surprised me. Its quite decent for the price. But im thinking about going for a i5 2500k next.

Will 1600 MHz DDR3 Work with i5-2500SHave a 2500S build I'm starting soon, and I know the 2500 can do max 1333 MHz. Waiting for the RAM to arrive in the mail atm, So if I have some 1600 MHz RAM lying around can I use it in the build or will it not boot? Thanks

The board will take care of that. In the usual boards you use a 2600S in (i own one, CPU and board) you have to explicitely set 1600, so it will usually and most likely be set to 1333 anyways at the start.

Overclocking an i5 2500s?I have an i5 2500shttp://ark.intel.com/products/52211Sitting in an ASRock Extreme6 1155 motherboard, is it possible to overclock the CPU?I enabled Non-K overclocking, but it seemed not to change anything, I fiddled with some settings and then it wouldnt boot until i reset it.Anything special about overclocking a non-k processor like this? Is it even possible?

A non K will only overclock a small amount by increasing the bCLK. That overclocks *everything* on the motherboard, so it can have some undesirable results. I had an i3 that i bumped to 102 and the system ran fine, but i had amazing lag in games due to the network card being out of sync.

Eh your probably looking at medium-ish settings for 1080P/60.http://www.legitreviews.com/msi-geforce-gtx-1050-ti-4gb-geforce-gtx-1050-2gb-video-card-review_187298/7And the only reason I say that is that they used a much faster i7 in the test system.
