AMD Phenom II X4 955 overheats!I'm having problem with my cpu overheating. It's core temp. can reach up to 85-90 C when putting it under stress test with OCCT program. In idle mode it's temp is arround 48 - 50 C.The things I tried to do to fix the overheat problem:- Added another small system fan (now I'm having 1 large fan for output air placed on the back of the case, and one small one which is on bottom)- Turned my power fan towards my graphic card (it was placed to blow air outside on the bottom)- Removed my cooler from the CPU (Shuriken B), cleaned CPU with acceton and minimized the thermal paste layer by using a credit card to leave just a thin layer of itWith all of the above things I've made, my CPU temp is still up to 85-90 C when it's in stress test mode. The thing I've noticed is that my case gets very hot above my CPU

Don't ignore the factsYour cooler cannot dissapate 125W it is rated at 95WYour CPU is shutting itself down because the temperatures are hitting unsafe levels (90)These are facts.Everything else is supposition. But maybe you have messed with fan speeds, maybe the chip is toasted and leaking current all over. maybe your temperature sensor is screwed.Either way, the facts stay the same and your cooler is not sufficient. Fix what you know is wrong, then guess at what might be wrong.

What gpu for AMD Phenom II X4 955Hey guys.I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card (gpu). Im not the best with computers but I'm a quick learner and have built my own pc.Listed are my current specs:OS: Windows 7 home premium 64bitMother board: Gigabyte GA-880GM-USB3Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 9558GB ramDisplay: 1920x1080 @60HzMy current gpu is: Sapphire HD4850 512mb.Obviously its pretty old so I'm looking to upgrade to the best gpu my current system can handle. What gpu would be best for my system? It will need to support directX 11. If anyone has a good site to buy them from that would be sweet too.Cheers.

I've had an X4 955 BE @ 3.6 Ghz paired with a GTX 670 (now belongs to my nephew). While it held the GPU back a little I still got good gameplay out of it. An R9 270X on a stock 955 should do quite well.An X4 955 BE can easily OC to 3.6-3.8 Ghz with a good cooler. Between that and a solid midrange card you see a huge difference in gaming.

Phenom II X4 955 + GTX 760 = Bad Match?Hello, I used to have a GTX 470 that I believe is now dead (started flickering while gaming once and then gave me "video hardware error" bluescreen). While now searching for a replacement I first looked at the GTX 660 and 660Ti's, but then finally the 760, more specifically from ASUS.I thought I had this thought out until I started thinking about bottlenecking and realizing that will probably happen to me. I have a Phenom II X4 955 at 3.2GHz, not OC'd and stock cooler. The only thing I'm interested in are racing games, and I would really like to play New Car Game and The Crew at 1680x1050 which is my screen resolution. How bad do you think it would be for me? Would I be better off just starting over?Other specs:ASUS M4A78T-E motherboard2x2GB Kingston HyperX DDR3Corsair HX750W PSU

Hey. Yeah, some people don't like changing Makes, but I'm just an AMD guy. The 660ti seems to be a pretty solid choice for Nvidia card, for roughly around the same price as the 7870 Tahiti. Just a link to let you know roughly what you're looking for.http://www.extak.com/catalog/55084/GeForce-GTX-660-Ti-DirectCU-II---2-GB-GD?ppc=google_shoppingI'd also recommend getting the ASUS version of the card, fail that the MSI version.Remember to mark one of the answers as solution also to stop let people know its been solved.Glad to have helped.

      Phenom II X4 955 BE C2 to 4GhzIs it possible?My CPU: http://products.amd.com/en-us/DesktopCPUDetail.aspx?id=532&f1=AMD+Phenom%E2%84%A2+II+X4&f2=&f3=&f4=512&f5=&f6=&f7=&f8=&f9=&f10=&f11=&f12=TrueRight now, I'm running @ 3.9 Ghz at 1.5v and I don't think it's stable.Can I raise the voltage more? Is that not safe? I have a corsair h50 and temps seem low.http://i.imgur.com/nyhPaj1.pngThanks,Syn

no.. that's not how you overclock. you don't just set voltages and multipliers randomly. up your multiplier by +0.5 restart the machine and see if you load into windows. if you do, up your multiplier by another +0.5... keep upping the multiplier until you fail to post or load into windows. if you fail to post don't worry. after 3 failed posts your bios will automatically reset to base settings. if that doesn't happen just clr_cmos. now we add vcore by .0125V increments. restart and see if windows will load. if it won't bump the vcore another .0125V, once you're able to play around in windows you'll need to get prime95 and coretemp or hwmonitorrun prime95... keep a close eye on your cpu temps. Deneb cpus hit their thermal ceiling somewhere between 58C and 63C... mine actually hits it's ceiling exactly at 58C... as long as your cpu temps are alight, (not in the high 50s) you still have room to bump your vcore. prime95 will probably crash back to the desktop, prompt a blue screen or black screen restart. Blue screens usually mean ram/northbridge issues... not always though... simply bad voltage from your cpu can cause a blue screen so don't start playing with ram yet. Black screen restarts (it just straight resets) or programs crashing to desktop, or the computer just locking up usually mean your cpu is undervolted. keep bumping vcore by .0125V increments, keep a tight eye on the cpu temps. if you stabilize the system for a few passes in prime95 and aren't at your thermal limits or your desired overclock... bump your multiplier by another +0.5, see if you can get it to stabilize in prime95 with safe temps for a few passes (with whatever vcore bump you might need), and then move to the next +0.5 multiplier bump. when you've reached your desired clock speed you're going to run prime for a few hours (anything that can run prime for 8 hours without overheating or crashing is pretty much rock solid).

overclocking a BE phenom II x4 955the few threads i found by searching lead to dead links for the guide to overclock this processor. im on stock settings currently but want to squeeze more out of my pc. specs/model numbers as follows:processor - obviously a phenom II x4 955 BE, stock 3.2ghz clock, aftermarket rocketfish 6 pipe heatsink w/ 2 x 80mm fans (push/pull)mobo - asus m5a88-mcase - thermaltake v3 (5 x 120mm case fans)video card - stock cooling, geforce 560Ti SCpower supply - corsair 650watt, bottom-case mountedtemps - cpu - 42c during normal usage (streaming videos, web surfing, email, torrenting)mainboard - 35Cvideo card - 60CHDD0 AND 1 - BOTH 30c (ocz vertex3 and wd 2tb mechanical)im a little concerned in that ive seen others with idle temps of 25-30c, yet im sitting at 42c during normal usage. anywho...ive overclocked my video card with EVGA precision X before and am aware that there is a utility to OC the processor in windows (AMD overdrive?). pointers would be great, as well as a good link to the guide for OC'ing this processor (the ones i found while searching were 404'd).
