Upgading i7 980Hi guys, looking for a bit of help..im looking at upgrading my system to something newer. Currently running an i7 980 and am thinking of going to an i7 4790k or the new 5820k system.I also want to go 780 sli so i would like to get the best possible performance.Keep in mind this pc is purely for gaming.. do you think its worth the upgrade or would you have a recommendation on the best CPU i should use... thanks

absolutely not worth the upgrade for gaming. The number shows that in modern well threaded games going from what you have to a new 6 core with ht will yield very small fps boost. give that chip a little overclocking if you havn't already and wait for the skylake arc.

i7 970gtx or i5 980 gtxI know there have been alot of discussion regarding i7 and i5 processors and their capabilities some months ago, but now when i have to make the decission i just want to make sure that my money is in the right place.Title says it all, I live in Europe and at the moment there are few choices avaiable :1) i7-4790 RAM 8GB GEFORCE GTX970 HDD 500GB (754$)2) i5-4690 RAM 8GB HDD 500GB GEFORCE GTX 980 4GB (880$)3) i7-4790 RAM 8GB HDD 500GB GEFORCE GTX 980 4GB (980$)4) i5-4460 RAM 8GB GEFORCE GTX 970 HDD 500GB (670$)I have been trying to make a decision for quite some time now and was leaning towards i7 970 gtx which is 750$. Then i read that there is no need for i7 as games nowadays dont even use all of the threads and wont in nearest future (im not so sure though). Then again, some comparisons claim that i5 uses all of its cores at 100% on some games, however i7 keeps it steady at 40%, so what will happen with the newest games and is i5 future proof ? Then there is the problem with gtx 970 only having 3.5 gigs of memory and so the discussions go on. Now the directx 12 comes in play and there are so many other factors that people are discussing that just make it hard to decide. So please, does anybody here have any suggestions regarding these setups FOR GAMING mainly. I pretty much play anything starting from not that demanding games as CS:GO, WoW & F1 2014 up to BF4. I've had my pc for 7-10 years now and i think its time for upgrade as all of these games run on low now. In future i plan on playing more demanding games like Star Wars Battlefront, Rainbow six siege, tom clancys division, nbka 2k16, Project Cars and more, thus the question, whether i5 and 970 is and will be enough in future ?I forgot to mention that i have benq gw2255 monitor (1080p) and i dont plan on upgrading it.Huge thanks for suggestions in advance.

No, there is no need for i7 for any single card configurations. I have an i5 4670k running a 980ti bottleneck free. Unless you plan on doing any video rendering or mulitcard setups, you will see no gain out of getting i7.

Intel i7 4790k and single GTX 980 tiI am wondering... How many years will my pc with a 980 ti graphics card and intel i7 4790k cpu last for 1080p gaming at 30-60fps?

Honestly, we can never tell. Games will be continuously developed, some may be GPU-intensive while some may be not. Currently, with that 30-60 FPS, your GTX 980 Ti can perform up to 1440p and, to some extent, 4k. It'll max out all games at 1080p (and would seem much as an overkill). In fact, a GTX 970 might just suffice. So, with a GTX 980 Ti at 1080p? It'll probably go a loooong way at that resolution. Exact number of years? Nobody can tell.

Will i7 2600 bottleneck 980?I bought my PC in 2011, and currently i have 580 gtx twin frozer II and intel i7 2600. Seems like my 580 is damaged, my monitor ignores it. so i wanted to by new GPU, and i wonder if 980 will be a huge improvement at all? is it worth it with my current cpu?

Yes 980 would be a nice upgrade. And your cpu won't bottleneck the gpu on any terms, it's more than capable of handling even SLI 980s so feel free to upgrade

i7 980xSo I recently acquired a i7 980x. I found it unopened at a garage sale for $5. My question is should I build a new rig with this or sell it and build a rig with a newer cpu on the market.

Build a desktop around it using inexpensive parts and then sell the desktop. This CPU is old tech.
