Phenom II X4 820
  • The Phenom II X4 820 is more power efficient and generates less heat.
Ryzen Threadripper 1900X
  • The Ryzen Threadripper 1900X has higher Level 3 Cache. This is useful when you have substantial multiprocessing workloads, many computationally intense simultaneous processes. More likely on a server, less on a personally used computer for interactive desktop workloads.
  • The Ryzen Threadripper 1900X has more cores. The benefit of having more cores is that the system can handle more threads. Each core can handle a separate stream of data. This architecture greatly increases the performance of a system that is running concurrent applications.
  • The Ryzen Threadripper 1900X has more threads. Larger programs are divided into threads (small sections) so that the processor can execute them simultaneously to get faster execution.
  • For some games, a cpu with a higher clock speed, or in a technical name IPC (Instructions per clock), has better results than other CPU's with higher core count and lower core speed.
  • The Ryzen Threadripper 1900X has a higher turbo clock boost. Turbo Boost is a CPU feature that will run CPU clock speed faster than its base clock, if certain conditions are present. It will enable older software that runs on fewer cores, to perform better on newer hardware. Since games are software too, it is also applicable to them.
  • The Ryzen Threadripper 1900X has a smaller process size. The faster a transistor can toggle on and off, the faster it can do work. And transistors that turn on and off with less energy are more efficient, reducing the operating power, or “dynamic power consumption,” required by a processor.

58°C in load is perfectly normal if your CPU is running in stock with stock cooler. If you would be getting 80°C and more I would be concerned and considered cleaning the cooler from dust and replacement of the thermal paste between CPU and heatsink.

AMD Phenom II x4 820 @2.8 GHz bottleneckHey guys , i have AMD Phenom II x4 820 @2.8 GHz in my pc and im planing to buy a 760 GTX , i cant overclock it because of the OEM motherboard . so will my CPU bottleneck my 760 GTX. im not upgrading it for next one or two years.(if you have any way to overclock a cpu in a motherboard that doesn't support overclocking please tell me!) THANKS!!!

Um... no, most games will do better with a higher CPU clock. If what you are trying to imply is true then my ATI HD5770 is bottlenecked by my CPU which is an AMD 965BE. Sorry but my CPU is not my bottleneck. There is a big misconception that the new GPU's need a new CPU to not bottleneck and unless you have a weak quadcore cpu you will be fine. Of course there are exeptions to this like the Titan and 690 that could potentially bottleneck many CPU's.I agree that you will need to make sure you have an ample enough PSU to upgrade to that card.

Upgrade from Phenom II X4 820Hello everyone,I currently have an HP Pavilion with an AMD Phenom II X4 820 @ 2.8ghz.I am looking to buy a new desktop.I am looking at configurations with the following processors:1. AMD FX-43002. Intel Core i3-43303. Intel Core i3-4350Please note that I am not much of a gamer. If I do play any games, they are older games, or flash based games. I'd like to know which processor would be better overall for movie watching (Netflix, Hulu Plus, etc) music listening, audio encoding, web surfing, office uise, etc). One such example I am looking at is this on TigerDirect:http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8925380&pagenumber=1&RSort=1&csid=ITD&recordsPerPage=5&body=REVIEWS#CustomerReviewsBlockAlso this one with FX-4300:http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2546170&CatId=1887The 3rd option is a customized HP business PC with 8gb RAM, 1gb video card, windows 7 and an intel core i3-4350 processor for $498.Please note that I'm trying to get a system with Windows 7 64 bit preinstalled. Thanks!

Im on the same boat with you trying to use less power since my electric bill is 280$ for aug and september when its hot in AZ. Now its only 170$ since i replace my card motherboard and power supply all there is left to replace is the CPU for me but i only get paid if i fix someones computer in my area for 15$ or a pack of cigs.I3 would be great if you want the lowest power consumption and heat output so it doesn't trigger the air conditioner if you use one like me. 4300 is 95W so your ranging around 80-115W light usage and i3 is 55W cpu uses around 60-70ish light usage.
