Yes, you can render with any CPU and GPU if the software supports gpu acceleration. It may take quite a long time with an i3 depending on what you want to render.

      i would go for i3 4160 . Faster at stock clocks . Furthermore 4 threads vs 2 threads .http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Pentium-G3240-vs-Intel-4160

Intel I3 4160 vs I5 4460 for the GTX960Hi, I have the GTX960 graphic card and I have a question. The 4160 costs 106€ and the 4460 costs 163€, that is a HUGE difference of prize. I saw lots of reviews and benchmarks, and I think they are very similar (sligthly better the I5 of corse), but I3 is newer and have similar power and lower consumition. The question is: with the GTX 960, it will be slowed performance due the 4160? If it is only 2 or 3 FPS, I would buy the I3.Thanks

The i3 will be fine if you don't want to spend the extra cash for the i5. Online gaming on a busy server may favor the i5 a bit with its 4 cores/4 threads over the i3 with its 2 cares/4 threads. But single player differences will be much less noticeable. Here is a comparison of the Core i3-4130 vs Core i5-4670k. While not the same CPUs in your post, it should give you an idea of the difference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXPK9doyMLg

It depends on the games you will play.In general, I think the i3-4160 is a very good choice. It has a total passmark rating of 5041, and a single thread rating of 2080.Most games, particularly sims, strategy and mmo types depend on the performance of the single master thread. For that the 2080 rating is excellent. The i5-4460 mentioned has a stronger total rating of 6639, but a slightly weaker single thread rating of 1952.The only time when a i5 will be better is when a game can make use of more than 3 threads, and few do.I might suggest looking at the i3-4170 with a single thread rating of 2138. I think the cost is not much more than for a i3-4160.

i3-4160 with an GTX 1060So I'm planning to upgrade my Asus GTX 750 TI to Zotac GTX 1060 6gb, I was just wondering will it bottleneck my i3-4160? I was thinking on upgrade my GPU 1st then work my way on i5-4690 on later months. Games planning to play: AAARise of Tomb RaiderBattlefield 1OverwatchDeus EX Mankind DividedPlaying on 1366x720 resolution though, and wondering if I can set it to high to ultra settings.

A 750 ti is not too bad for 720p, I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish here. A 1060 will certainly perform better than a 750ti at 1080p, but you don't mention upgrading your display. If you could be a bit more specific about the kind of performance you're getting now and what you hope to achieve with a 1060 then you might get more helpful answers.edit: It occurs to me that some games' 'ultra' settings might require a certain amount of vram. Your 750 ti, with 2gb, might be unable to play at ultra for that reason. If that's the case, a less expensive 4gb card, like an RX 460 or 1050ti, might allow you to play at 720p ultra and not cost as much.
