Short answer is yes.Better answer is it depends a little on the game in question. Some game engines require very little from a PC. Others are quite demanding. The less demanding the game is on the CPU the more cycles the CPU will have to keep the GFX card happy. But ultimately you will want to replace the CPU with something with a bit more horsepower. The q9500 is pretty old, 6 years I think. A cheap option might be to look for a i5 2500k on the used market. Locally they sell for very cheap. Even at stock speeds this also very old CPU just crushes the q9500 and the 2500k is alot easier to overclock.

Intel core 2 quad q9500Hello..I have a intel core 2 quad q 9500,now I know that this cpu has 4 cores..it's a quad core cpu right..but lately I heared people saying that it has 4 threads too..On intel's site they say that it has only 4 cores..no threads in the specs..but some other sites and cpu-z on my pc says that it has 4 cores and 4 threads. So I dont really know now if it has threads or not..?

A core has one thread by default if it's functioning properly. So your CPU is 4 cores/4 threads.

Amd Phenom X4 9500 or Core 2 QuadHey guysI need a cheap gaming pc because i don't have the money for a new pc i planned on upgrading one of the systems i have the options areOption 1 currently has a e7400, 4gb ddr2 500, gt 220 and i was going to upgrade it to a core 2 quad and a gtx 550ti.Option 2. An AMD Asus M2N68 Plus that will take the ram and gpu because it's just a motherboard but can be swapped out for the lga 775 board i just don't have a cpu for it right now.Pretty much what im asking is: Do i go for the LGA 775 core 2 quad (non-oem board msi 7519 so i can oc) or should i go for the AMD pc with the Amd Phenom X4 9500.Cheers guys

http://www.delidded.com/lga-771-to-775-adapter/3/http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sop=15&gbr=1&_fcid=1&_from=R40&_clu=2&_sacat=0&_nkw=lga+771+775+adapter&LH_PrefLoc=2&rt=nc&LH_BIN=1&rmvSB=trueIt's actually cheaper to buy the mod strip and a Xeon than messing around with the $17 windshield defroster repair kit. http://www.overclockers.com/intel-lga775-pad-modding/With your current e7400 put a tiny piece of black electrical tape over the first pad above the notch on the right hand side. Most boards max out at 333fsb or 1333mhz, the tape makes it a 400fsb or 1600mhz cpu. Of course it wont do that, so it will run at where the board maxes out. The e7400 is 266fsb or 1066mhz. This mod works on oem boards even if the bios doesn't let you change the fsb speed. On a e1200 1.6ghz celeron the tape mod makes it run at 2.66ghz. A E2200 failed to work. -It will either work, or not. If the mod works a 3.X ghz core2 duo is still ok for most games. The Phenom X4 9500 is ok but your doing a board swap and messing with drivers and a possible os reinstall. A 3.0ghz quad core Xeon is faster than the Phenom X4 9500. I would try and get a faster card than the 550ti unless it is dirt cheap. Newer cards like a used HD-7850 or 7870 or Geforce 660 or 670, 760ti use less power but are as fast or faster than the former 580GTX or HD-6970.

Well for starters, the Xeon chip is the better option, but I don't know if your board supports it because you didn't specify the revision of the board as there are multiple boards with this model #
