Very likely. Easy to check, fire up some monitoring tools that will show you CPU usage and FPS in game. You should see a correlation.250 FPS is likely when no other players are on the screen, or when looking at very simple areas of the map. You would want to target when they are and when you can see lots of the map.

Help! I7 3770K can't OCHello, i would like some help on OCing my i7 3770K 3.5GHZ, i recently overclocked it to 4.1GHZ on bios, step up and turbo enabled and offset mode. But when i checked on Cpu-Z the clock was stuck at 3.5GHZ when stress tested. Would appreciate help, thanks in advance.

Try getting away from offset mode and due fixed voltage. Its much easier and far more common. Once you get your fixed voltage you can use that number to go back to trying to tune for offset anyway.Try fixed voltage of 1.25 and 4.2GHz. Set LLC to level 1/high or even 2 or 3. Give that a shot & see what happens. You can then tune clocks and voltages from there to achieve a higher OC if desired. That chip should be able to reach upwards of 4.5 easily with good cooling and reasonable voltage. I personally try to find the best OC I can with priority 1 of keeping voltage no higher than 1.3v and of course keeping temps comfortable (80-82c max under the most brutal stress tools like the newer versions of prime95 which over-stresses the CPU even). Tools like Realbench will reflect even lower temps.

i7 3770k or i7 4770k?I am having a tough time deciding which cpu to get. I know the 4770k is more future proof and more powerful than the 3770k, but the 4770k has higher temperatures and worse overclocking than the 3770k. The 3770k has better overclocking and better temperatures than 4770k but the 3770k is older and less future proof. It is hard for me to choose which cpu because they are both really good despite their disadvantages. So I really could use some help on deciding which cpu is the best.

Did you note the bit where @DoubleClick noted that a Devil's Canyon CPU (such as your 4790K) will only work in a z87 board after a bios update? That's important. A 16GB kit of 2400MHz RAM would help out in CPU limited scenarios. Then again RAM that fast might cause you to have to downclock a bit from your 4.4GHz OC. Really 16GB is the amount of RAM that I recommend going forward. That's how much you should have no matter the speed. Though it is important to at least have 1600MHz CL9 RAM for gaming. My CPU is 10% faster than yours on ipc and 10% slower on the clock. So our CPU's are pretty much equal. I have 2400MHz RAM which probably makes mine a bit faster in CPU limited scenarios. I can tell you that I use a GTX 1080 ti and I notice zero bottlenecks at 4K. That's the resolution I play at. 1440p I'm not sure but I can test it. I'll run a few tests and show you what upgrading your RAM could do. And if there is no major bottleneck on the GTX 1080 ti then there won't be on the GTX 1080. There was a little bit of bottlenecking in some titles at 1440p but none what so ever at 4K. The bottlenecking should be even less on the GTX 1080 since it isn't as powerful as the GTX 1080 ti. Also keep in mind that some of the GPU usage percentages are estimates based on what I saw on msi afterburner overlay. Since i am running a similar setup to ms228 i beg to differ on the worth of the ram upgrade.My setup is:Cpu: i7 3770k @4,4 GhzMobo: Asrock Z77 WSRam: 16Gb Panram Light Swords DDR3-2400Mhz (4 sticks)GPU: Palit Super JetStream 1080Ti @0,9 Volt 1860 MhzEven with more and faster ram the 3770k is at it´s limits at 144hz/WQHD gaming in some titles. Worst case scenario is battlefield 1, where the 1080Ti is around 80-90% average utilization (depending on the amount of players). Framerate is flucutating between 100-144fps and occasional drops down to the 70´s. As far as i am concerned, i would consider going for 8700k or waiting for the 8 core icelake i7 arriving at Q2/18. It´s not worth anymore to upgrade the ddr-3 ram, since the prices are inflated and you can´t use the ram for the newer platforms. However it would be a no brainer if you had a ddr-4 platform.

Overclocking i7 3770kHi,So I want to improve my gaming performance by overclocking my CPU. Its standard GHz is 3.50 and when running the IntelBurnTest, it reaches around 65°C. I tried setting the core ratio limit to 41 in my BIOS, rebooted and ran the IntelBurnTest again and it's actually at 64°C max now (was also 64°C with 40 GHz). The task manager tells me it does reach the proper GHz (approximately 4.06 if I set it to 41 in BIOS). I was wondering two things: does anyone have a clue as to why in the world my temperature does not seem to increase after overclocking? I think I'm doing something wrong. Then, the reason Temps haven't risen is there. Temps depend on voltage, not on frequency.Stability depends on both voltage and frequency. As frequency goes up it bvecomes unstable. By rising the voltage you increase stability.Therefore, to overclock you should increase frequency until it's no longer stable. At that point, increase voltage until it's stable again.Test for stability using your prefered stressing software (manye poeple here use Prime95, you might also use any other stress test).Voltage should be kept under 1.3 preferably. I recommend 1.20 as a starting point, and rise it slowly, 0.01 at a time.Don't just trust the voltage you input in BIOS, use some software to measure it (like HWmonitor).You could aim to get 4.5GHz @ 1.3v or lower, if you're lucky enough.Remember, higher the voltage, higher the Temps.
