Athlon II X3 445
  • The Athlon II X3 445 has higher Level 2 Cache. Data/instructions which have to be processed can be loaded from the fast L2 and the CPU does not have to wait for the very slow DDR RAM
i5-10400
  • The i5-10400 has more cores. The benefit of having more cores is that the system can handle more threads. Each core can handle a separate stream of data. This architecture greatly increases the performance of a system that is running concurrent applications.
  • The i5-10400 has more threads. Larger programs are divided into threads (small sections) so that the processor can execute them simultaneously to get faster execution.
  • For some games, a cpu with a higher clock speed, or in a technical name IPC (Instructions per clock), has better results than other CPU's with higher core count and lower core speed.
  • The i5-10400 has a higher turbo clock boost. Turbo Boost is a CPU feature that will run CPU clock speed faster than its base clock, if certain conditions are present. It will enable older software that runs on fewer cores, to perform better on newer hardware. Since games are software too, it is also applicable to them.
  • The i5-10400 has a smaller process size. The faster a transistor can toggle on and off, the faster it can do work. And transistors that turn on and off with less energy are more efficient, reducing the operating power, or “dynamic power consumption,” required by a processor.

You have to go into the BIOS to do it, I believe the Asrock BIOS lbels it something obvious like "Core Unlocker". Your CPU may or may not be able to run stable with the 4th core unlocked. I had an x3 Rana build for my wife with an Asrock board and that CPU wasn't stable with the unlocked core.

How to overclock AMD Athlon(tm) II X3 445Hello, so i want to know how to exactly overclock my CPU. I found out that I have to go to BIOS and stuff, but as of everyone has a different BIOS and motherboards, and I'm not the best at OverClocking I would like to get some help from more experienced people so I don't blow up my pc doing this all by myself. By the title, as I said, I have AMD Athlon(tm) II X3 445 Processor (3 CPUs), ~3. 1GHz CPUAnd a Gigabyte GA-780T-D3L motherboard. Also I want to know how to unlock it to 4 cores not just OC.If anyone can provide me step-by-step instuctions, I would really appreciate it. Also if you need any more info about pc write in comments.

I have not unlocked an AMD core before but I believe that if you unlock it and it does not work the disabled core was faulty and why sold as an X3. You can try unlocking it again and upping CoreV by .5V, 1.5V max, 1.45V recommended. Remember more voltage = more heat, higher frequency = more heat. ensure you have good CPU and VRM cooling.

AMD Athlon II X3 445 OverclockingHi guys. I was thinking of overclocking my already unlocked athlon II X3 (now phenom II X4 B45) when my aftermarket cooler arrives (Zalman CNPS9900 MAX). So just unlocking the 4th core upped the TDP to 126W (says CPUZ), now i was thinking of overclocking it and i want to how high can i go with it? Is it possible to reach 4ghz? As for the other specs you can see them but i'll just type the motherboard make and model here in the post: MSI 970A-G46

Don't be so greedy. Make sure this CPU can stay steady in at least a month or more then try to push it up. I know it may have unlocked multiplier but such CPUs may have a not-so-steady fourth core so that AMD lock this core in order to keep the whole system steady. After that, there are tons of overclock forums on the Internet. First congratulate u of successfully unlocking all the cores and everything's fine (I've seen some guy finding out some annoying issues after unlocking a CPU like u did). And if u try OC some time later, just tweak it up by 100 mhz, don't be too rusty. And better get yourself a good CPU cooler like Cooler Master 212 EVO or else.
