Eight core processor any good for 4kI need a tower to run 4k footage(hero 6) and I was wondering if a 8 core processor better than a quad core.

Cores really aren’t the thing to look at. Look at the GPU that comes with the system. If your CPU has an integrated GPU in it then simply look up the specs and see if it supports 4K video playback. If this system you have had a graphics card then do the same thing.

Eight-core CPU to a Quad-coreHey, First off, I'm not amazingly advanced in computer hardware (hence the post here) so I'd prefer if replies aren't filled with technological term! I've currently got the AMD FX-8120.What I wish to know is, could I go from my current eight-core CPU, to a quad-core (or even dual-core) CPU? If I could, would the installation be normal or would I have to do anything extra? Modify the current slot or anything.If I have to stay with eight-core, what would be a good step up to another good for gaming eight-core processor? Thanks.

The slots the cpu goes in are all built specifically for a certain family/architecture/model (whatever you want to call it) group of CPU. For example, LGA 1155 (on the Intel side) words for just about all of the Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge cpu. AMD has their own socket labels which I'm less familiar with but the concept is the same. You do NOT want to "modify" anything. I believe you could substitute AMD's 8-core to some of their other FX cpu models, but I would check around for the specifications to make sure what is allowed in there. The number of cores isnt really what's as important here.Also, you can't use Intel on an AMD board/AMD on an Intel board*There isnt really much of an upgrade with that CPU, the only ones that are really higher are pretty much just overclocked versions of what you have I believe. You could go better with Intel, but you would then have to buy another motherboard

Low-end boards like this cause a lot of problems with 125W CPUs. It's not recommended. To really make an 8320 worthwhile, you'd have to buy a new motherboard anyway and even then, it's a difficult recommendation to upgrade *to* this platform in 2016.

Amd fx-8150 eight-core processorHi guys,Major PC builder newbie here.I bought I pre-built computer on Ebay (yeah yeah I know hah) which has always seemed to have issues. The computer would often blue screen during gaming, which I chalked up to over heating seeing as my house and especially my room can be stupidly hot much of the time (I live in Australia).But it's finally gotten so bad that I can barely get 30 minutes in before it blue screens. It even blue screens/restarts sometimes when I'm just watching movies on the internet.I installed Core temp and hoo-boy, it gets to around and probably higher then 70 degrees. It appears I have a stock standard, after market style CPU fan cooler majig which obviously is not doing the trick.My CPU is an Amd fx-8150 eight-core processor. I'm looking for a new CPU cooler that will get that temperature down. Waaaay down.Any suggestions would be appreciated.Thanks,Squink

Stock AMD coolers are actually quite good. Since you didn't go into much detail about how your system is cooled, or what you have tried yet, I'll start with the basics. Check your case fans, make sure they are working properly. You should have at very least 3 case fans, my case has 4, actually 5 if you count the PSU fan. http://www.coolermaster.com/product/Detail/case/mid-tower/haf-922.html AMD heatsinks are easy to remove, so I would get small tube of good thermal compound, remove, clean, redo the thermal compound application, remount the heatsink. Whoever put it together may not have done it properly, and this can make a big difference. There is no reason a stock heatsink will not cool properly, unless you are cranking the voltages up and trying some big overclocks. Contrary to what you hear or read about how crappy stock heatsinks are, the stock heatsink is supplied by the people who made and warranty the processor.

The i5 will give the best performance in games and solid performance in streaming, video editing, etc. While the fx 8xxx will give slightly lower performance in games but will do better in streaming and editing. Overall the i5 is better but if you want to save some cash then the fx 8xxx is a great cpu to go for.
